Valentine Treats: I'm Stuck on You!

We don't usually keep anything that has anything to do with peanuts in our household because my youngest kid has a peanut allergy. Then Lettering Delights released their Stuck On You SVG set and I was so smitten by it that I just had to play with it. The first thing that I made was this card (see below) but with Valentine's Day just around the corner, I really wanted to show you how you can use it to make a Valentine Treat as well.

Lucky for me, I still have the 2 Reese's Peanut Butter Cups that the twins got from their schoolmate the other day so I could use them for this demo.

Making these Valentines were quick, super easy, and terribly fun. I did not want to deal with cutting out the sentiment so I chose the easier route- I printed it out using the same technique that I had shown in this tutorial. After that, I just cut the layers with Make-the-Cut, and adhered the finished piece onto the card. To complete the project, I stuck a piece of candy on it. Making Valentines that looked this cute couldn't have been easier! 

Since we don't eat anything with peanuts or peanut butter, we don't give them out either and staying in a peanut-free home isn't going to stop me from enjoying this SVG set. To see why I am so attracted by it, just click here or the image below. (and that it's only $2.40 until Monday!)

Love Pets Valentines

Hey Moms, why buy Valentines when you can make them and have fun at the same time? I used Lettering Delights' Love Pets SVG set to whip these up quickly.

First I printed the Love is Sweet Paper Pack on white cardstock and using Make-the-Cut, I imported the frame from the Love Labels SVG set. The original image of the frame looks like this:

I deleted the layers with the Heart and the XOXO and kept the rectangle and scallop frame. I sized and arranged the Love Pets SVG so that it fits in inside the rectangle.When I am satisfied with how the whole thing looks, I used CTRL+A to select everything on the virtual mat and reduced the height to 4" while keeping the Lock Aspect Ratio on. The width will automatically adjust when the Lock Aspect Ratio is on.

I figured that by reducing the size of whole thing, the sentiment would have become too small to be nicely cut out by the Cricut, so I decided to print the greeting out instead. I used the technique shown in my tutorial here to print out the text.

I used googly eyes on the animals because I thought that they would make the animals look cuter. I also used a mini pom-pom for the bunny's tail.

Valentine Treats: You're Just My Type

Valentine's Day is now less than a week away. Are you done with making Valentines for the little ones? No? Still looking for ideas? Don't panic yet, it's not too late to start. Over the next few days I will show you a few Valentines that you can make with Lettering Delights' SVG sets. In fact, let's start today with this Pixy Stix Holder.

Using the Programmed for Love SVG set, I imported the robot into Make-the Cut at Actual Size and 72 DPI. By making 2 copies of the Shadow Layer, and welding the two layers with a rectangle, I managed to create a shaped card base. I adhered the robot and the speech bubble to the card base and made two slits on it. To complete the Valentine, I slot a Pixy Stix through the slits.

Here are a few things to note if you are making this:

1. I did not change the size of the robot after importing the SVG but you might want to increase the size a little, say, by a half-inch. This is because the robot's antenna is thin but if you increase the overall size of the image, the antenna might be less likely to tear off while it is being cut by the Cricut.

2. I did emboss the card front and used Stickles to bling up the robot.

3. The sentiment was printed on the speech bubble.

4. You can easily replace the Pixy Stix with a lollipop instead but the robot may not be able to stand.

This robot is so easy to cut out and I only needed to use 4 different colored cardstock (Dark grey, Grey, Black, Red) to cut all the robot's layers out in ONE pass!. If I had not used googly eyes, I would have needed white cardstock as well but I preferred the look of the googly eyes for this project.

I'm so happy that the Monsters are now available in SVG format. Do you remember when I had to convert the Monster-licious Graphic set into a cuttable set myself? Click here to see the Monster-licious post I made last June when I made these puppets for my baby from the Monster-licious Graphic Set.

I absolutely love that the bundle includes both the SVG and the Paper Pack. It is so convenient to not have to dig through my own mountain of cardstock to find a few pages that co-ordinate. 

Has everybody made something with the free bundle? I really wanted to play with the Monster Love SVG and also, since I have not cut out a milk carton before, I thought that this was a great time to try making one too. If you've ever wondered how the Lettering Delights Milk Carton SVG set look like, wonder no more because I have cut out all 5 designs for you.

They're so cute, aren't they? I used the Make-the-Cut program to cut them out with my Cricut Expression. The main difference between the cartons is the unique design on the flaps. There is also one that has a window. Here's a tip if you have this set: Personally, I prefer to score the fold lines with my Scor-Pal rather than use the score lines that comes with the SVG. In Make-the-Cut, I use CTRL+B to break the whole image, then delete away all the score lines. I do cut one carton out with the score lines first to use it as a sample and I use that sample to figure out where the score lines should be. I score and crease the cutouts first before putting the box together with tape.

By the way, as I have mentioned before in this tutorial, Lettering Delights' SVGs are supposed to be imported at Actual Size and 72 DPI. If the resulting image sits a little over on the no-cut zone, just offset the paper like I showed you in this post.

 

 

I wanted a smaller carton so I reduced the imported image by 10%. That also meant that if I wanted to put monster labels on the milk carton, I had to make them small enough to fit on the box. Want to see how small these monsters turned out? Here's a picture:

Each monster measures approximaetly 1.5" x 0.75" ! They're so tiny! They're also very cute too. Even my 5 year old said so and knowing how much she freaks out at the slightest mention of "Monsters",  well, that tells a lot. ;-)

I stuck the finished monsters over a strip of ribbon that I had pre-attached to the milk carton and filled it with chocolate hearts. I completed the project by closing the top of the box with some twine.

So there you go, that's one more idea for Valentine's Day treats for the little monsters kiddies in your life. ;-)

It's a Valentine's Day Parrrrty!

For the past week you have watched me make Valentine's Day cards, treats, and Mail Boxes. Add a couple of drinks and we are ready to paaaaaaaaaarty!

The more I use the Frogs and Kisses SVG set, the more I *heart* it. I used a file from the set to label the milk bottles!

My kids are not really that into cupcakes so I decided to get donuts instead. Yum....

The Valentine Mail Drop Box and the Valentine Mailbox make the perfect centerpiece while the Valentine Cone Boxes make the Valentine treats even more special.

Lettering Delights has released several SVG sets that are perfect for Valentine's Day. With so many fun things to cut out, why not party? ;-)

How to Assemble the Lettering Delights Valentine Mail Drop Box

STEP 1:

Cut out the following pieces: Files 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, and 19. 

STEP 2:

Adhere together the decorative sides (Files 8, and 9) and set them aside for later.

STEP 3: 

Using the score lines from the cutouts as a guide, score and crease the folds.

STEP 4:

Prep the bottom piece with double-sided tape.

STEP 5: 

Stick the base to the two sides of the drop box. (Pictures below only show the base being taped to one side but you should also stick the base to the other side when the first side is done.)

STEP 6:

Prepare the top/back piece (file 1). I used my ATG tape instead of the red-lined tape because this tape is more forgiving. 

STEP 7:  

Adhere the side cutout to the top/back piece starting from the bottom of the top/back piece.

STEP 8:

Before attempting to adhere the curved parts of the mail drop box, make sure that the top/back piece is stuck onto the straight sides of the two side pieces.

STEP 9:

Adhere the front of the top/back piece to the front of the drop box and then adjust the curved part. I had to tuck in the two curved parts so that the three pieces of cutouts (2 side pieces plus the front/back piece) all fit snugly.

STEP 10: 

Adhere the top of the front piece to the bottom of the slot cutout.

STEP 11: 

Adhere one side of the front down onto the drop box. 

STEP 12: 

Adhere the other side of the front piece down. 

STEP 13: 

Stick the two little flaps/sides of the slot piece to the drop box. 

STEP 14: 

Tuck in the top of the slot piece, and adhere it to the top of the drop box. 

STEP 15: 

Adhere the prepare pieces from Step 2 to the two sides of the drop box. 

STEP 16: 

Decorate the front of the drop box to your heart's content or just sit back and enjoy the assembled Valentine Mail Drop Box.
