Merry Christmas Wreath

It is the beginning of a new week and I am still breathless from all the activities of this past weekend. I am so swamped from all the preparation of the holiday season plus the 3 birthdays that we will be celebrating in my house this week, and yet I kept thinking about the new Lettering Delights SVG sets. I couldn't wait until I have a moment to play with Merriment .

The original LD svg for the wreath comes in 4 layers but I really wanted to have the holes in the bow cut out so that the card below shows through. This is where the magic of Make-the-Cut shines through. Just because the wreath comes in an SVG file that is ready to cut, does not mean that it is the only way that it should be cut. With the help of MTC's "Boolean Join" tool, I adjusted the layers so that I could get them exactly how I want them to be, without sacrificing the original intended finished look of the layered cuts.

I like the end result a lot. I layered the wreath with foam tape and adhered it to a base that I had embossed with a Sizzix embossing folder. I used the LD Cursive font for the sentiment and printed it on vellum with my laser printer. 

If you have not tried out the LD svgs, do give it a shot. It is  nice to not have to convert the graphics first before you can use it in MTC. Seriously, cut it out and be amazed. :-)

Joy's stamps

 

Once upon a time, before I owned a Cricut, I was a rubber stamper. Yes, it's true. I stopped stamping when my kids came along but before they did, I was a rubber stamping fool. 

And so when my friend, Joy of joyslife.com offered to send me some of her stamps to play with, I was super excited. The stamps came in the mail the other day, and all I could say was "Wow!". If you own any of Joy's stamps, you would know why I was so bowled over by the quality of her stamps. The rubber is thick but more importantly, the stamped image is super crisp. 

The stamps stamped so well! I took them out of the package and used them straight away with a Memories Dye Ink pad. The stamped images were clean and clear. No pre-conditioning or pre-sanding required. I was delighted!

For today's card, I used a tree from Lettering Delight's DB O Tannenbaum set. Since it is a doodlebat, I was able to create the layers quickly in MTC.

As soon as the Cricut was done cutting, I put the layers of the tree together and adhered it to a prepared card front. I finished the card with a stamp from Joy's newest stamp collection. Peace & Joy

Have y'all tried out the  MTC print-and-cut? I'm still playing around with it and today I chose the LD O Tannenbaum set to play with. The trees in this set are just too pretty to not print and cut with! :)

To start, I used MTC to create a layer for the tree as the original image had no base layer. I mean, all those circles needed a base to stick on, right? So, I did it by using the Shadow Layer command. 

Next, I print-and-cut the frame.  The image comes from a clip art set called Funky Frames . I love this set. The frames are what I call "funky neat". Heh heh... funky and neat, get it? :P

All the LD clip art sets contain both colored and non-colored versions of the same images so I easily traced the frame in MTC by using the black and white copy. I added in the pattern by adding the paper from the O Tannenbaum Paper Pack.

The greeting was typed with the LD Modern Sans font and I added in another paper from the same O Tannenbaum Paper Pack.

To finish, I layered the frame so that it highlights the greeting. I adhered the tree with foam tape to make it "pop" (I'm really tired of saying "...for added dimensions...blah blah blah...") and all the glitter comes from my very well-loved bottle of Crystal Stickles. Yippee! Another Holiday card done!
