Catch a Falling Star

I tell my kids all the time that working hard is not enough. You have to work smart too.

"What is this?", I would ask them while pointing a finger at my head.

It's ironic that the person who often says "Use your noggin'. Think!" is also the one to do things the hard way. (Yes, I'm referring to me in case you haven't figured that out yet. :P )

Today's card is a case in point. I could have finished it in less than 30 minutes but I just had to meddle with LD's Sweet Dreams file. In the original image, the girl layer is attached to the moon. I really wanted the image to "pop" so I spent twice the time separating the girl from the moon.

I think that the time spent was worth it. Doesn't the image look cuter when the girl layer is elevated above the moon? It's like she's really sitting on it! In case you are interested in doing the same, the following is a screenshot of how the image looks like after all the modifications.

The card base was printed and manually trimmed down to size with my paper trimmer.

If you are interested in making today's card but do not care for, or have the time to modify the file, it's not a problem at all. The original LD file is perfectly fine. Your card will not have the added dimension but it'll still look super adorable.

Here's my finished card:

Friday Freebies {plus new Sweet Dreams}

Whoa. The week has flown by so fast! It's already Friday and the kids' mid-Winter break is almost over. I've been busy with the girls all week and celebrating the Chinese New Year with the family (hence few new posts this week). Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!!

LD has a great freebie for us this week but first, check out their latest sale. LD has put together several bundles and are offering them at an insane price.

For example, the Dreamiest Cut Bundle includes 22 sets of Cut Its (SVG) and is usually priced at $95 when the files are bought separately. For this sale, LD has priced the bundle at only $23. If you use the code ExtraLove, an additional 35% discount will be taken. The final cost is only $14.95! That's like paying less than 68cents per set! WOW!

Click HERE to get your Dreamiest Cut Bundle and grab the graphics and add-on bundles as well.

While you're at the LD site, check out their new Sweet Dreams. It's an adorable collection and is the perfect set for making a baby card or especially for decorating the nursery.

If you are buying Sweet Dreams, consider getting the bundles instead. The bundles are usually a better deal and you can even use a coupon on top of that.

The coupon ExtraLove will take an additional 35% off any purchase of $12 or more. Sweeeeet!

Here's your Friday Freebie:

Click HERE or the image above to go to the LD site. Add the Sweet Dreams Cut It Project and Graphics set to your cart and checkout. You pay $0.00! The links to the downloads will show up after the "transaction" is completed.

Monday Mood

Is it really Monday again? Didn't we just have one of those a few days ago?

The kids are on their Mid-Winter break this week. As much as I love hanging out with them, I know that with three little drama queens in the house, it won't be long before someone starts screaming for "MOMMMMIEEEE....!!!".

Rather than having them write lines as a punishment, perhaps I should come out with a new plan. Everytime someone tells on her sister, both will get a Grumpy Cat button added to their jars. By the end of the week, the kid with the least number of buttons gets a prize.

Either that or I'll just lock myself in the craft room with this note stuck on the door:

And I'm not coming out until Daddy comes home.

Winners of Panda Buttons (Facebook giveaway)

Just for fun, I had a little giveaway on my Facebook page the other day. The winners were picked randomly and they are:

Congratulations, Kasey, Christine, and Christina! Please send your mailing address to me (via Facebook private message) and I will send your panda buttons your way!

Stickers for Valentines

So I confess, I'm a little obsessed with everything that Nancy Kubo designs. I've already made cards and buttons with her latest Nancy's Valentine's Day graphic set, but I wanted to do more. One of my favorite things to make with my Silhouette Cameo is stickers and so I decided to make some with this set too.
buttons that I made with Nancy's Valentine's Day

Using Silhouette Studio Designer Edition, I came up with this: (see screenshot below)

I could squeeze four square groups (two 3.75"x3.75, and two 3"x3") of images on a letter-sized sticker sheet. To minimize wastage, I filled the blank spots with individual images.

To print-and-cut these out, I printed once, and cut twice. The first cut was a kiss-cut. That is when I set the Cameo to cut with less force so that the backing paper is not cut through. When the machine has finished kiss-cutting, without unloading the sticker and the cutting mat, I set the Cameo to cut a second time and with a stronger force. This time, it cuts the squares through backing paper.

I used the cut settings that I had mentioned previously and in several older posts. If you had missed them, you can find the settings in the post HERE.

love you Beary much!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I have a short post for you today. Here are some cards that I made by combining the Squawk Box Cards and the Squawk Box Cut Its.

Squawk Box Cards (printables)

Squawk Box Cut Its

The Squawk Box Cards is a set of printables. I used Silhouette Studio DE to trace the cards so I can print-and-cut them out with my Silhouette Cameo. In order to add dimensions to the cards, I print-and-cut specific layers (e.g. faces, arms) from the Squawk Box Cut Its and adhered them to the cards with foam tape.

Enjoy the cards and Have a Wonderful Day!
