From Boxes to Tealight Shade

Good Monday Morning, Everyone! Did everyone have a good weekend?  I was busy, busy, busy! I'm leaving town this week and going on a vacation with my kids and hubby. I really don't like coming back to a dirty home so we've been cleaning up the house. There are times when I feel like I'm cleaning the same spot over and over. Picking up after the kids is like shoveling snow in a blizzard! I could spend hours cleaning up and organizing their toys and it takes my three little piggies less than 15 mins to bring their playroom back to the same messy state. :-(

It's hard to focus on house-cleaning when all that I want to do is play. Lettering Delights released several new sets late last week including these:

They have also added the super cool Mahalo Sets to their site but you can only purchase these Sneak Peeks when you are on your way to check out:

As much as I wanted to play with the new sets, my mind was still on the Intricate Gift Box Collection that I used to make the gift boxes and notecards that I told you about last Friday.

Using Make-the-Cut, I modified the box and used my Silhouette SD to cut out 4 panels. I tied the panels together with baker's twine to make a tealight lantern.

This is how it looks like without the tealight.

It looks so pretty when lit!

I used a battery-operated flameless tealight for this shade and storing it away is super easy because the shade folds down flat.

Dressing up a table has never been easier. Can you imagine putting a couple of these out for a party? Too stylish! And a great conversation piece too. There are 9 different designs (plus 1 box bottom) in the Intricate Gift Box Collection. You can use a different design to make a different shade for each table!

By the way, today is the last day to get the Simple Shapes Bundle at the $49 sale price. Once the sale is over, the price will go back to $150 and I don't know if the bundle will ever be on sale at this insanely low price again. There are so many things that you can do with these sets. You can do vinyl work with them and many home decor projects. I have made cards and shadow puppets and I am going to cut out some of these sets for my kids so that they can practice story-writing with them. 50 sets with 50 themes = Too many compositions to keep my kids busy. Yippee! :-)

Don't miss out on this great bundle. Click here to get yours today before the offer expires.

Edit: (July 12)
I have received several queries from readers who wanted to know how I modified the gift box svg. I used Make-the-Cut's Boolean Join tool to "extract" the main design. Just go to the Basic Shapes tab and double-click on a square to bring it to the mat. Next, apply Boolean Join on the gift box and the square. Once the main design is isolated, just weld rectangles to the sides to make the panels.

Patricia's Boxes

Minimalism.

Hubby and I once aspired to live the minimalist lifestyle. The idea of a simple uncluttered life was appealing but even more so, we were drawn towards the sleek and stylish designs that reflect the minimalist trend. So when I was first introduced to Patricia Zapata's A Little Hut, I was immediately captivated.

I have seen so many over-patterned and over-embellished projects on the internet that I could feel a sensory overload. A visit to Patricia's site cleared my head. I was drawn to her simple yet sophisticated designs and her use of plain white or solid colors for her projects was so refreshing! I was so intrigued by her work that I almost missed the news that Lettering Delights was going to sell her designs on their site.

If you are a subscriber of the LD newsletter, you would probably know that Patricia's Intricate Gift Box Collection is now available on LetteringDelights.com. The bundle of 10 sets (9 box covers + 1 box bottom) are being sold in the new Cut Its format. This means that several cutting formats (ai, dxf, gsd, eps, svg, pdf) are included in the bundle so that you can cut these boxes out with your electronic cutter no matter which cutter you own.

I have waited months for this and I couldn't have been more excited to see Patricia's files on the LD site. I had promised my kids that I will not play with my cutter during the day in the summer but I really REALLY wanted to try out the new files. So I made a deal (plus a bribe) with my girls, and while they busy themselves with a new craft kit, I got to make Patricia's gift boxes!

I used Make-the-Cut and my Silhouette SD to cut out the gift boxes. Using Make-the-Cut, I imported the SVG at "Use Actual" and 72 DPI. Since the Silhouette has a limited cutting area, I reduced the size of the box (covers and bottom) by 30%. The resulting assembled gift box measured approximately 4"x 4". I thought that was a pretty good size.

These gift boxes are so pretty that the covers can be used as wall hangings. In fact, I love the designs so much, I had to make cards with them.

Fancy note cards in a fancy box. I think that makes a fancy gift. Don't you?

For a limited time, the Intricate Gift Box Collection is available for only $15.00 (reg $20). The files are also available separately for $2 a set. Click here or the image above to get your bundle now.

While you're at the Lettering Delights site, don't forget to pick up your 50-sets Simple Shapes Bundle. The sale price of $49 will end on Monday! Don't miss out on this awesome deal. Click here to go to the Lettering Delights store now.

What's Buzzin'?

Wednesday! Can you believe that we're already half-way through the week? Feels like the week just started. Wait a minute...it did. I guess that's what a 3-day weekend does to me. Long weekends always make me lose track of the days of the week.
So you'll forgive me if I post LD's Tuesday deal a day late, right? Luckily, LD's Two-for-Tuesday offer is always good for a week so you still have time to grab it before it expires.

For one week only, you can get BOTH the Girl Power and Sparkle SVGs for $4 (reg $8). That's only $2 per set except that you have to buy both sets.

So anyway, I figure that I'll make up for being late by showing you this super-fantabulous card that I made with the Girl Power SVG set.

This shaped card is slightly different from all my other shaped cards. The card front is actually smaller than the rest of the card.

The writing area is only as big as the card front and you can't see the writing area at all when the card is closed.

Instead of adhering the bee to the card with foam tape, I attached a piece of wire to it. I think it made the card so much more fun to look at.

All the layers were cut out by my Silhouette SD and Make-the-Cut.

Don't forget that the LD's Two-for-Tuesday offer will expire next Monday. To get your Girl Power and Sparkle SVG Bundle, just click here now.
