Happy Halloween!

It's October 31st and what a strange October it has been. With the current Covid-19 situation going from bad to worse (again?! 😭) it feels like Halloween is about to be cancelled. We still did the things that we usually do like making our annual trip to the pumpkin patch but we did it on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds. We did have to put our masks on but honestly, it's not a big deal at all if that's what it takes to keep everyone safe.

My girls are older now and even though they are not really into going door-to-door to ask for treats anymore, they are disappointed that we can't have a Halloween party for them and their friends like we do every year. It was nice though that their school held a little Halloween drive-thru for the students the other night. The kids dressed up a little and got a treat bag and a cup of hot cocoa each without even getting out of the car.

All of our schedules have been turned upside down since the pandemic hit. Hubby is still working from home and the kids are all still doing remote learning. With everyone home, I don't have as much time to play with my crafty things but thankfully I still get to play with my Silhouette Cameo. I have so much to show you guys! For a start, here are some of the Halloween gnomes from LD's Fall Gnomes collection. I can't wait to show y'all more gnomes later.

Have a happy and safe Halloween, everyone!

Happy Fall!

Pumpkin season is here! It feels like it was just yesterday when we all went into quarantine and now it's the first day of Fall? It's been over 6 months and we're still in a pandemic?! *cry*

I love Autumn. There's something about the cooler air, the yellow-orange colors of the trees, and the smell of hot apple cider in my kitchen that just make me feel cozy all over. We go to the pumpkin patch every October to pick our pumpkins but this may be the year that I make an exception. As long as the schools are not opened for in-person classes, we'll be in self-quarantine and staying at home. We love going to the farm and joining in the festivities but I'm not feeling so good about the crowds. So I guess we'll be getting our pumpkins from the grocery stores this year. I hope Whole Foods delivers.

Happy Fall, y'all!

You are Magic.

Whenever I think of making a card with a magic theme, I tend to gravitate towards unicorns. I don't know if it's because I watched too many My Little Pony with my girls when they were younger but "magic cards" always make me think of rainbows and unicorns. Never mind that my kids have long outgrown the cartoon series and are now more into the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies. It was always unicorns on my mind.

So naturally, the unicorn was the one I wanted to cut out when I saw LD's new Enchanted Forest. That and the hedgehog because who can resist an enchanted hedgehog? When I showed my daughter the cut set, she immediately pointed out the dragon instead. So the unicorn was out and the dragon ended up on my Silhouette Studio mat.

I love shaped cards and it couldn't be easier to make one with the dragon. I simply made a couple of shadow layers (using the OFFSET tool) and weld them together for a card base. The sentiment is a saying that I have seen on the internet and I thought it was perfect for this card.

TIP: There is a very detailed layer on the dragon that my Silhouette Cameo kept shredding. I finally managed to get it to cut by making a 0.010 offset (shadow) of it. Since the offset is so small it didn't affect the shape very much but it made the narrow part broad enough for the machine to cut out without cutting it to pieces.

I cut out the different layers using my Silhouette Cameo and printed the sentiment. I adhered everything together with glue and foam tape. Finally, I added some rhinestone stickers for a little sparkle and with that my card is done.

Like magic.

----------

School started two weeks ago and we are well into the third week of distance learning. Everyone has claimed a spot in the house for their Zoom sessions- the bedroom, the study, and the kitchen. Even Hubby has taken over the basement to use as his home office. I am so thankful to have a craft room to hang out in since I can't be in the kitchen during school hours anymore. So of course this means that I'm surrounded by crafty things, which means that I just have to get crafting! Yay! 😁

On the first day of school I made the kids walk to school and back to simulate that going-to-school feeling before their online classes start. Haha!😄

When LD released their Good Notes collection recently, my immediate thought was to use them to make something for the kids.  Stickers were an obvious choice especially since I really do love making them. I also realized that the designs from the Cut Set (SVG) can be made into cards easily.

For the first card, I decided to use the shark image. Every element that I needed to make a card is already there in the design- the subject, the shadow layer, and even the sentiment! All that I had to do was to cut and assemble everything together and slap it onto a card base. Easy peasy!

Looking at the rest of the images in the collection, I realized that I could do the same thing with most of them. I decided that I would use the the one with the "YOU DID IT!" sentiment and another with "BRAVO!".

Originally I made these cards with the kids in mind but now that I think about it, the teachers could probably use some encouragement too. We are all trying to get used to this whole online learning thing and I cannot imagine what the teachers are going through. I think they definitely deserve a card or two or a thousand!

So what do you think? I think they're kind of cute but are they too kiddie-ish for the teachers? Let me know in the comments below!

Zoom Meeting

Summer break is coming to an end. School starts in a week and in-person classes are not going to happen due to the pandemic. Instead, like many of the other school districts in our area, the kids will be doing remote learning. I suppose that means that the first day of school will probably look something like this?

I love having the kids at home but online classes is just not the same as in-person school. Besides, they miss seeing their friends so much! I look forward to the day when it is safe enough for everyone to attend school in person again. Until then, let’s Zoom!

Did you know that LD has a monthly promotion where you can get an entire collection for free if you spend a certain dollar amount in their store? Their "Earn-A-FREE-Collection" promotion for August features Floral Shop, one of my all-time favorite LD design.

I loved the collection when it was first released a few years ago and seeing it featured again reminded me of how much I enjoyed using the cutting files before. So much so that I just had to make another card (or two) with it.

Using Silhouette Studio (Designer Edition) with my Silhouette Cameo machine, I cut out the floral bouquet from the Floral Shop Cut Set. After putting the layers together with glue and foam tape, I attached a stamped little tag to the bouquet and adhered it to the card front. The card was super easy to make because there are only a few layers in this cutting file.

The Floral Shop collection includes a set of printable papers but I chose to use some patterned paper by Carta Bella Paper Co. instead. I thought they went so well together!

The Floral Shop promotional bundle includes 7 sets of cutting files and graphics, with a total retail value of $33. CLICK HERE to see the full details of the promotion as well as the coupon code to get it all for free.

While you are at the LD site, don't forget to pick up your TWO freebies.
