During Spring Break, my 12 year old kid (Twin A) asked to play with my
bread making machine. I told her to go for it and long story short, we haven't bought any bread from the grocery store since. :-) Twin A and her sister, Twin B love making bread for their sandwiches. However, a 2-lb loaf of sandwich bread is pretty big and hard to store. It wasn't long before I found myself shopping for a bread box.

I didn't realize that it would be so hard to find one that I liked! Most bread boxes out there are too small while those that did fit were either too expensive or not my style. I was happy when I finally found
one that I did like but the price was waaaay above my budget. Then I came across the
Jamie Oliver Vintage-Inspired Tin Bread Box.
It's so cute! I love that the cutting board serves as the lid and I adore the rounded-corner rectangular shape. From the reviews, folks are saying that a 2-lb loaf would fit inside. The price is high but not as bad as the one that I had my eye on. Everything about it seemed like it was exactly the box I was looking for except that I didn't like how the printed "Bread" label looked. That typeface is not my style and I couldn't bring myself to pay that much for a box that I don't love 100%.
After that, I gave up. My search for the perfect bread box has ended with me telling myself that it was simply not meant to be. I'll just have to find another way to keep our breads.
Almost as soon as I had given up, the heavens shone their light down on me. Well, actually it was a shiny yellow tin box that I spotted but the color was so bright, it could have come from the heavens. I was shopping at
Crate and Barrel when I chanced upon the box. Suddenly, a light bulb moment! I could make this my bread box! Plus, I could label it any way I like with anything I want! YAY!
As soon as I got it home, I whipped out my roll of metallic silver vinyl, switched on
my Cameo and cut out "Bread" in the exact font that I wanted. The
LDJ Owl Scratch font is whimsical and playful and when I put the vinyl cutout onto the tin box, it looks as if one of the kiddos had scratched out the word. Haha, PERFECTO!!
I couldn't be happier with my box. The yellow color adds a bright spot in my otherwise dull kitchen while the kiddie-looking "scratched out" label reflects the fact that the bread inside was baked by the kids.
Now if only I could convince the twins they need to start making dinner...
