Everybody, Let's Bento! (plus Giveaway)

The summer before my twins went to Kindergarten, I started researching online for school lunch ideas. I came across a lot of discussions about Bento Lunches. Thus began my love for making kiddie bento lunches for my girls. :)

Half the fun of making kiddie bento lunches is shopping for bento supplies. All the bento boxes look so cute in their little drawstring bags and the food picks are just too adorable. Then there are the little soya sauce containers and the mini divider dishes. The mayonnaise containers and Furikake (rice seasoning) bottles are simply irresistible!

By referring to online tutorials and bento-making books, I figured out how to make octo-dogs, and apple rabbits. I learned how to use the egg molds to make the super cute molded boiled eggs.  The kids love getting their bento lunches and I notice that they actually do finish their lunch whenever I make it bento style.

So when I first saw Lettering Delight's Bento Box SVG, I laughed and laughed and asked my 5 year old if she could identify the items in the SVG set and when she did, I knew that Lettering Delights has gotten the set right. :-)

Let me show you which are some of my favorite files from this set:

The Apple Rabbit, Wasabi/ginger, Octodog, ramen, Soy sauce, mini soy sauce bottle, Furikake Rice Seasoning Bottle

Here is a great tutorial on making apple rabbits and here's one on Octodogs.

I'm always fascinated by the 3D items in the SVG sets and I just had to make these onigiri rice balls with Make-the-Cut.

Contrary to popular belief, I actually do not own a Cuttlebug. However, I did use the Cuttlebug 5-Inch-by-7-Inch Embossing Folder, Polka Dots with my Sizzix Texture Boutique Embossing Machine to add texture to the rice balls.

I am so tickled that Lettering Delights added the food picks and the green sushi food divider to the set. I used the Cuttlebug A2 Embossing Folder, Forest Branches to add texture to the sushi food divider.

Today is the last day of the Lettering Delights' Dollar Sale. If you have not added this set to your collection, it's a good idea to grab it while it is still only $2 a set. A steal if you consider that there are 31 files, including 5 3D items. Click here to go to the Lettering Delights website and while you're there, don't forget to pick up the coordinating Bento Box Paper Pack for just $1! Use the coupon code "Sushi" to take 10% off your entire purchase.

If you "Like" my blog on Facebook, you may know that I had a quick little giveaway on Wednesday. The winner of the "Guess the replica item" has been picked and it is:

Congratulations, Lisa Norris! You have won the pack of food picks.

The winner for the $5 Lettering Delights gift certificate for guessing what I was making is :

Congratulations, Lisa Thigpen Howell!

Of course I just have to add a giveaway on the blog and someone who reads this post will win:

This little Bento Lunch Set includes: a 2-layer bento box, a elastic band to secure the box, a spoon/fork/chopsticks set, a pack of food dividers, a pack of food picks, 2 mini soy sauce bottles, a penguin shaped mayonnaise container, a pack of mini divider cups AND a drawstring bag to store the bento box in.

Here's how to win:

You must be a follower to enter in the giveaway. If you are not already a follower, just click on the "Follow" button on the right column of this page.

Leave ONE comment on this post and tell me:
Have you ever eaten sushi? If so, what's your favorite?

 ***

Dollar Days only happen twice a year. This round will end tonight and the sale will not be back for a few months. Click here to go to the Lettering Delights website to finish off your shopping. Don't forget to use the coupon "Sushi" to take 10% off your entire purchase.

  38. I have tried Sushi one time and about puked it up. It tasted so gross to me, I am a picky eater any way. I do love anything that is Super Japanese Kawaii though and these really are. My Uncle and Aunt live in Japan as missionaries and in September are moving to my Aunt's native country of Thailand. Maybe I will have them ship me some of these before they go if I don't win these ^__^. We normally wait for them to come back every five years because it is so expensive to mail things.
