  1. Hi there

I'm new to your blog, so very inspired. I do have a problem, I hope to get your advise. I just received my first Silhouette Cameo a few days ago. Apparently it does not communicate with my Kodak printer. I called Sillohuette and they said "hopefully" at some distant future date, they MAY be able to fix the problem. So now I am totally disappointed!!!!!!! What type of printer do you have? May that could be my next purchase.. Please let others know about this problem

    1. I'm sorry to hear about your printer issue, Susan. How disappointing! :( I have several printers but I mostly use my Canon PIXMA MP495 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer. Can you share the model of your Kodak printer?

    2. Kodak ESP Office 2170 series. It's just new and I love it......so so disappointed.

    3. Susan, because of your comment, I decided to ask the folks over at my Facebook page about their printers. A few people have mentioned that they use Kodak printers with their cutter with no issue. I thought you may want to take a look. I can't link to the thread but you can find it here.

    4. I have had absolutely NO luck with Kodak printers. I bought one, then went through a series of problems with it that could not be fixed. Every time I called Kodak and asked them what they thought the problem was and what I could do, and every time they sent me a new printer. Really nice of them, but every printer was as bad as the last. On the FOURTH Kodak printer stopped working I unplugged it and threw it out my front door-literally. I now have an EPSON Artisan 837 and it is AWESOME and not a whisper of a problem. My advice-dump the Kodak and get something else that WILL work with your Cameo.

  3. I thought you were able to use SVGs if you used Inkscape or Gimp2 ?

    1. The free Silhouette Studio program cannot import SVGs in the .svg format. If you do not have SSDE, you have to use Inkscape to convert the SVG file into the .dxf format in order to open the file with Silhouette Studio. Also, if you want to print-and-cut a Lettering Delights Cut Its (SVG) with your Silhouette machine, you will need SSDE to open the svg file.

  4. Hi Jin

Ok....thanks so much for face booking about the Kodak printer. I have been on the phone again with Silhouette, still no luck. So.........enter Walmart !!!!!!!!!! They have a printer Canon Pixma on for $39.00..... I made sure I could take it back if it was not compatible. Well...yippee!!!!!!!!!! It works great. I've doing print and cut for 2 hours. Bet I go through a lot of ink..LOL.. Thanks for all you do. I'm off to find a way to use the 1400 svgs I have done in the past for the silhouette. I visit your blog daily!! I'm interested in Lettering Delights....but ther is so much to learn, but I'm super excited to be on this journey

  5. Hi Jin, I have been following your blog for about a year now, and finally bought the Silhouette over Christmas. I have had failure after failure, and feel so frustrated. First of all, I ended up with one of the bad blades, which totally mutilated all of the cuts. After the new blade arrived, I had slightly better luck, but I still have no idea what I am doing. I find it so upsetting that there is not even a manual to look through. I had them send me a pdf of the online version so I could print it out at Kinkos. I see so many amazing designs that people come up with, and look forward to one day getting up to speed. I also find it frustrating that their videos are SO boring to watch--really bad production values, unprofessional sound, monotone narration, bad camerawork, etc. Sorry, everyone, to rant! Anyway, I would be interested in taking advantage of the great deal on SSDE, but I am afraid it will be throwing good money after bad.

  6. Hi Jin,
I purchased the Silhouette Portrait and am wondering if my SCAL program will work with it, instead of the Make-the-cut program?! I hope you can answer the question!!
I am going to study with your youtube tutorials on how to use the Silhouette with all it's features!
Thanks for the efford you put in all the work to make the tutorials!

  8. Hi, Jin. I received a Cameo for Christmas to replace my Cricut. I have been using Make-the-Cut for a couple years following your great tutorials. Is there any benefit for me to buy the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition if I already use MTC?

    1. KT, I hope that this reply isn't too late (The promo was extended but today is the last day). I understand that many people who only use MTC are using the SSDE to convert their .studio files into SVG (via an earlier version). This is so that they can use designs that are only available from the Sil store with their MTC program.
