non-candy Valentine: Your friendship warms my heart

Disclaimer: Today's post shows the use of Little Hotties Hand Warmers as a Valentine gift idea.  According to this site (from which I buy my hand warmers), these are safe for children (with proper supervision) but use your own discretion if you are giving these to the kids. Be sure to check with the potential recipient's parents that the child knows how to use these safely. You assume all risks of using this gift idea. Instead of these hand warmers, you can use today's idea with mittens, gloves, or even a pack of hot cocoa. Just re-size the template accordingly.

The weather in the Pacific Northwest has been chilly the past couple of weeks. Like many parents here, I've been sending the girls to school with some pocket hand warmers so that they will not freeze in the cold during recess.

Sometimes when their classmates have forgotten to bring their own, the girls would share. Since February is usually still pretty cold around here, I thought it would be fun to give away these hand warmers to those kids for Valentine. They could use these as a backup when they forget to bring theirs.

Using an SVG from LD, I print-and-cut an envelope to fit the hand warmer. I "decorated" the envelope in the way that I have demonstrated in many of my print-and-cut tutorials. Just drag-and-drop the images onto the virtual mat and resize to fit the template. I used an LD digital paper to pattern-fill. If you have not seen my earlier print-and-cut tutorials, just click here to find them.

I made these for the kids who have been using these Little Hotties hand warmers in school and are already familiar with them. If you intend to use this Valentine's Day idea, make sure that you check with the parents of the potential recipient, that they are comfortable with this gift and that their kid knows how to use it safely. Alternatively, you can also use this idea with homemade hand warmers or even mittens. Even better, put a pack of hot cocoa in place of the hand warmers. Now that is a treat that will surely warm the kiddo up too!

My heart soars when I'm with you

After Monday's "Incredible print-and-cut" card, I thought I'd make something that is more "cut" and
less "print". I made another hybrid card*.

First I modified the hot air balloon svg by replacing the balloon portion with a heart and even though I did a print-and-cut on the card base, the main image was cut out on different cardstock and layered. Once again, by combining traditional paper-piecing (i.e. paper layering) with print-and-cut, I managed to give the illusion of an extra layer without the added bulk.

Here are the screenshots for both the print-and-cut layer and the "Cut only" mat:

Jin's INCREDIBLE double-sided, print-and-cut, tri-fold card

I have something fun to share with you today. Something printed. On both sides. Is a tri-fold card and created using the Silhouette Studio and my Cameo.

Hubby thinks it's incredible. :-)

Here's the front of the card..

..and this is the first fold.

When you open the right flap, you will see the inside...

Ta-da!

It's pretty cool, if I do say so myself. :D

Here's the back of the card:

and these are the screenshots of my virtual mat:

Making this card involved a lot of "flipping images around" but the most noteworthy thing is the double-sided printing.

I am using Silhouette Studio Designer Edition (v 2.7.4d) and I noticed that the Align tool includes a Center to Page feature. By centering both the card front and the back, I managed to get the print on both sides of the paper in the correct position to make the tri-fold card.

It took a while to figure out where all the elements should be positioned but I had a TON of fun making this card. Hope that you enjoyed it too. :-)

Love you snow much!

I made this card the other day when LD debuted the Great Scott collection. Even though it is mostly a basic shaped card, I prefer to call it a hybrid card because I combined traditional paper-piecing (i.e. paper layering) with the print-and-cut technique.

Printing a faux layer not only adds depth and interest to the card, it also saves on ink and paper. The sentiment was also printed. This is the print-and-cut layer:

And here's the finished card:
