Jin's Give-Away #4 plus My trip to IKEA!
I went shopping yesterday. Well, you know, a craft room re-org isn't really one until a trip to IKEA. So I tell myself. If there is anything that I can use as an excuse to make a trek there, I'm on it! I wasn't looking for anything specific to buy but I had fun browsing through the furniture. There are so many possibilities!
Take a look at this. I could just shove all my crap inside, close the door and nobody would have any idea what's in there. Nice!
I'm not crazy about this table (too small!) but I love the color. I think my room could use a splash of orange. Yummy!
This chest of drawers has been calling my name for over a year now and even though I always pause to look at it, I can't think of a spot in the craftroom for it. Oh well, guess I'll have to pass it. Again.
In case anyone is wondering about the dimensions, I took a picture of the tag for you. That's right, I said I took it for YOU. I didn't take it for me. Nope not for me at all. I don't need this chest of drawers....I don't need this chest of drawers.....I don't need.....
By the way, the wide ALEX unit has two cousins. I actually bought this tall ALEX some months ago but I have not move it to the craftroom.
You can see the shorter VIKA ALEX on the left side of the picture below.
I didn't end up buying any furniture today but I couldn't leave the store empty-handed. Want to guess what I bought?
Ta-da! A $5.99 plastic bin on wheels! It fits 12"x12" cardstock nicely but the base is not flat. There are 4 bumps where the caster wheels are. I'm really liking that I can roll it around so I'm over-looking that unevenness.
---
And now, time for today's give-away...
You may know that I share the craftroom with my kids and so while I'm cleaning out my supplies, I'm giving away some of theirs too! Today's give-away is a Large Flat-Rate box of goodies for kids!
Inside the box are supplies for ages 4 and up, for boys and girls. :-)
Here's how to win:
Leave a comment here on the blog and tell me where do you buy storage stuff (containers, shelves, boxes, etc.) for your craft supplies. Do you get your containers from online stores or do you prefer to get them from a local shop where you can see and touch them in person? What is your favorite storage thingy/box/jar/rack/ etc.?
**Please comment on this page only (and not Facebook) to be considered for today's giveaway.**
The terms of the give-away are the same as before:

Ikea as well - I need to go again because I stole some of my children's ikea boxes when I had a clear out!

Same here for rural.....Walmart, Big Lots, Hobby Lobby are my choices. I have an idea for your new 12 x 12 paper storage.....could you cut a piece of card board (cheap) or plexi glass (more than cheap) that will fit in the bottow covering the bumps and making the surface level? Worth a try!
ReplyDeleteI'm a face book follower!
ReplyDeleteAwesome... I have the 2 vika Alex things for my craft table legs. My hubby had 2 of the squatty ones for his hobbies... and I have several sizes of Expedits, one on a wall and one to divide the room from hubbys space (10 x 20) bowling alley/converted garage. I also got a couple of the 4 cubby ones when they had that mega sale in hopes to put one on casters as my cutting cart...I love IKEA and whenever I need some inspiration I go just to walk around... and then get a cinnamon roll to take home....
ReplyDeleteThe few storage units that I have, I bought at Walmart. I have to see them in person to make sure that they will fit thatever I want in them. However, I have a full bottom set of kitchen cabinets in my craft room. They were from our kitchen before we totally redid our kitchen and so I inherited them :)
ReplyDeleteI am a follower of your blog!
ReplyDeleteI also love Ikea for storage solutions--and I have to see stuff in person, I'm a terrible online shopper :) I have some plastic drawers from walmart in a closet where I keep a lot of stuff I don't use often.
ReplyDeleteI use whatever is on sale at the craft stores and a billy shelf which is my main storage unit and craft "room" lol. I share the dining table with the family and the wine cabinet with DH, there is where I store my embellishments or stuff I don't want my girls to reach like my camera (Nikon D3000)and adhesives.
ReplyDeleteI shop where the sales are. Currently I am using the plastic rolling carts, but I like to see the items then I start looking for the best price online or in stores.
ReplyDeleteI ususally go to ikea or Michael's(with a coupon, of course).

ReplyDeleteIKEA is awesome!! I bought that Alex recently for my new Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II. I'm still waiting on my Cameo and might go back to IKEA to extend my GALANT corner desk.
ReplyDeleteI got my storage from different stores, JoAnn, Hobby Lobby, Costco and IKEA. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love going to Ikea and getting ideas. Fun give away today, my grandchildren would love that.
ReplyDeleteIKEA of course! Too bad I have to drive 8 hours to get to one but I make a yearly trek. Thanks!
ReplyDelete2nd chance:) I am also a follower of your blog and your facebook page.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I am doing, but my 1st post keeps disappearing when I post the second time (hoping they don't show back up as a duplicate later -- sorry if it does).
ReplyDeleteOh I wish I lived near an IKEA. I have heard so much about this store, but never had the opportunity to visit one. I get my storage stuff from Walmart, Michael's, JoAnn's, second hand stores and yard sales. I have found some great treasures for a wonderful price.
I love Ikea! Although I have not gotten scrapping storage there. I usually go to Michael's or Hobby Lobby.
ReplyDeleteMy second entry for the great prize! I take care of 7 kids every day so this would be great!! I follow your blog!
ReplyDeleteThis is fun!!! Love those shelves, making a note to go to IKEA! I usually get my stuff at JoAnns or Michaels I never even thought to look at IKEA! I love my cartridge holder from JoAnns I really needed the space that those boxes were taking up!
ReplyDeleteTHanks so much!
Lisa
My craft storage situation is BAD. I have a little set of rubbermaid drawers and a paper organizer and thats all. Everything is crammed into drawers and I have no idea whats where.
ReplyDeleteI've already been plotting an IKEA trip for a week. If we could just kick these colds!
I'm just getting started with paper crafting. Of all the things I've bought and used, I'm having the most fun with Glue Dots of all things. They rock!
ReplyDeleteAlso.. glitter glue. Oh yes.. glitter glue. I'm ready to glitter everything in my house.
I like you on Facebook
Well, I really love my Ikea shelves with all my baskets that I can shove stuff in. Personally I like shopping in store for storage stuff and I would love to have much more room and storage. Maybe someday...
ReplyDeleteThank you again for the chance to win!
2nd comment and I follow both! Yay!
ReplyDeleteI buy my things locally so I can make sure they will work. My favorite thing is my cubes that I store my paper vertically in. I love them and love that I can now easily see what paper I and get to it. :-) Thanks for the chance to win...any is there any way on your dreaming list that you could "wish" me a bigger space and an Ikea store to shop in???? LOL.... just checking....
ReplyDeleteI'm already a blog follower! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI ama follower already and this is a great idea for a giveaway, my grand children spend a lot of time here and we could have fun. I do my storage shopping at the local stores, my husband has MS and traveling is hard on him and I do not go too far without him. I like storage things that keep little fingers out,lol

I'm very picky about my storage boxes. I have to feel and try them out first at the store. Our whole basement is full of all sorts of plastic containers. My favorite place to get them is the Container Store. One of my favorite boxes is a 2-sided thread storge box. They can be found at Walmart in the Toy Department where they have the Matchbox cars. They are great for spools of thread, but I haven't found a use for them yet for papercrafting stuff. I also use a lot of boxes found in the Fishing Department of Walmart. Very handy for the small things. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Facebook follower too!
ReplyDeletei buy my paper racks at our local stores... but most of the time i just leave them all lying down on the floor hahahahah

ReplyDeleteI buy stuff wherever I can...mostly Michael's and Hobby Lobby! I can't pick a favorite though, too much stuff. :)

ReplyDeleteI LOVE IKEA!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteit is one of my favourite places to buy my storage stuff,
my favourite piece I have is From my LCS that was closing:(
a 12 x 12 paper rack I love it!!!!

We purchased 2 Ikea white closets to put all my 'junk' in to hide. I like to use clear boxes to store my art stuff inside.I got containers from target that are really for food so I can see what is inside but they come in really big boxes for papers and really small ones for glitter. xox Love to see what you find!! Also you can check out my pinterest for Art Storage, I have some funky ideas pinned!!
ReplyDeleteI love IKEA as well. I just put some pics up on my blog that I made with two Alex short drawer units and their butcher block top....I so love it. I had my sweetie pick them up for me and he accidently bought the tall ones...so I had to keep them as well. I good oops for me!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower as well.
ReplyDeleteI actually find most of my storage items from Goodwill or Salvation Army. I found brand new fabric storage bins that were originally sold at Target for only $1 a piece. I found a huge dresser in great condition that I store my fabric, paint, and card making supplies. I love Ikea and am actually only 20 mins from one, but I usually get overwhelmed and leave with nothing! Maybe I just need you to go shopping with me!

Oh I wish I had an Ikea! I love my built in bookshelves with the open shelves on top and behind the doors storage on the bottom. But I think I use my Iris carts even more. I have dozens of them and have taken them apart and reassembled so they are now 10 drawers high and with a wide mdf pre-painted shelf on top it makes a lovely counter. I store my stamps, collage items, embellishments, etc. in the drawers. Best storage ever. I have some little bin units on top of the counter to store tiny embellishments like beads, charms, buttons etc.
ReplyDeleteThis collection of stuff would be awesome as we have 3 grandkids living with us right now. I am a follower here and on the FB page.
ReplyDeleteI buy most of mine at both Ikea & Big lots!!! The prices at both are just right, too!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower of this blog and FB!
ReplyDeleteI buy all my scrapbook storage stuff at garage sales or off craigslist. i have gotten some great deals.

Ikea too!! Also Target and Walmart because I'm cheap :)
ReplyDeleteMy best storage is probably where I store my 12x12 paper - in file boxes on a metal shelf unit made for the garage so it can handle the weight. On top I put a board that I painted and it's my workstation for my cutting machine. Everything in one spot.

ReplyDeleteI know I am a little late but I WISH I HAD AN IKEA!!!! I have all the storage cubes from Michael's and then my husband made a desk out of some White laminate wood he bought from Lowes. I will try to post pics if I figure out how on here but I wish I could move it around a lot easier as I LOVE to change my craft room around and re-organize it more than I actually make crafts and scrapbook!!
ReplyDeleteI like my storage boxes from Michaels when they're on sale! I can stuff them with my stuff and then just pile one on top of the other; but by the same token, I'd rather have the pull-out drawers, but can't find big enough ones. I usually get mine at Big Lots, but I know Home Depot carries some too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance, Jin. I have three nephews and nieces that come over and want to craft with me, so this box of goodies would be great!

Oh my kindergartener would love that box. I bought some storage units from Target and some cute boxes to go on the shelves from Walmart. My favorite item though is this huge wall unit that hubby pulled out of an old office building. It must have been in the mail room cause it has all these cubby's and went in the wall between two rooms. It has doors to keep it closed and we mounted some laminant backing and attached it to the wall in our family room. I totally drool over the Ikea catalog and long for the day to visit a store. I need to get a job first. LOL
ReplyDeleteI follow on both. Thanks for another chance to win.

Most of my storage space has come from ... road kill. No kidding, I am frugal/cheap/broke and would love buy matched units, but then would have no money for stuff to put in it. So, I am as creative in using found objects as I am in making things. My favorite cleaning tip is to put things back as I use them as much as possible.. my natural tendency is to pile things around me until I am buried with my project.. it works much better to put away as I go.
ReplyDeleteMy fav. storage is using found objects. Costco boxes, found shelves and carts and bins. One thing I always keep in mind is see through and ease of use. anything can be pretty with paint/paper covering it.
ReplyDeleteIkea is about 60 miles away :( and here in the uk we dont have Michaels :'( or walmart. And with 4 kids, things always have to be done on a budget, so i am a user of our local freecycle website where people advertis their unwanted items to save them from landfill and i goto car boot sales during the summer months. I have got some great bargins over the years.

I tend to find most of my storage items at the dollar store. They usually have a colorful selection of small boxes. My favorite storage item is the shelf from Lowes my husband got for $1. It's awesome for storing all my stamps.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower. Love the new header on the blog. So cute :)
ReplyDeleteIt all depends on price when I look for storage items, so I get them many places. We don't have an IKEA nearby, although I like some of their items. May have to visit one when I am at my sister's or parent's house.

Jin, I love your blog. Not trying to enter for the freebie, just wanted to let you know about what to do with those uneven bottoms on the rolling plastic bin. My husband took boards and cut them down to fit in the bottom and drilled into them in the corners to accomodate the "bumps" and now the bottoms are flat!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing is actually my peg board wall in my craft room, bought the peg board at home depot.
ReplyDeleteHave alphabets, stickers, embellishments, etc. all hanging up where I can see them!
