MTC-Compatible Cutters

excerpt from Andy's official announcement, mar 16, 2011

Thank you, everyone who has responded to my call for reviews and photos of projects made with non-Provo Craft cutters. The response was tremendous and I received so many emails that it was not possible for me to add all the reviews and  photos into the posts today. Please don't be offended if you have sent in a review or a photo and did not see it posted. I am the only person who is compiling all of these info for this blog and I simply ran out of time so please forgive me if I did not put up your contribution.

These are some of the non-Provo Craft electronic cutters that are compatible with Make-the-Cut. Please click on the cutter to go to the page dedicated to it. If you currently own any of these electronic cutters, I encourage you to add in your review of the machine, especially if you also use Make-the-Cut with it.

UPDATE/NEW:
  •  The Silhouette Cameo Review (MSRP: $299.99)
  •  The KNK-Zing Review (MSRP:$399.00)

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with any retailer of electronic cutters.

There are other cutters (e.g. US cutters) that I was unable to obtain a user's review for. If you own any cutters that are not on this list, please feel free to add your review of it in the Comments section below.

Comparison Chart

I came across a post by a MTC_Tuts subscriber (I'm sorry but I can't recall your name) about this comparison chart and I thought it would be useful to add it in here. This chart belongs to  Dew Drop Craftz and their site address is http://www.dewdropcraftz.co.uk/

Other things to think about before buying your cutter

I also found this website that has some useful pointers about the other things that should be considered before buying a new electronic cutter.

Many of us have complained, grumbled, and whined that our Cricuts are unable to cut a round circle. For the sake of comparing cuts, I have put out a request on the MTC forum for pictures of 1/4" and 1/2" circles cut from the different machines. Here are the pictures that were sent to me:

Cricut (not compatible with MTC), by Gale

1", 1/2", 1/4" circles, Cricut E (not compatible with MTC), by Calgalcr8.

  2. This is SO very helpful. Thank you for putting all the information in one place for us. I can't believe how generous my fellow papercrafters always are.

  3. I'm staying tuned. i sent my politically correct complaint letter to Provo Craft yesterday. I don't have MTC since I have a Mac. ( use SCAL) I know I could use another download program in order to use MTC, but I think that could cause problems down the line. I hope one day that MTC will make the Mac version. Anyhoooo....I'm with you all the way and appreciate all the feedback....I know I'll be replacing my Cricut and refuse to buy any more supplies to run my machine....so when they are gone, they are gone and all your info if helping me decide which new machine to purchase. Thanks so much!

  4. Thanks so much for doing this - I am seriously looking at new cutters and really want a Black Cat but the Gazelle looks very nice too. Both machines seem to have mostly happy customers which is a good sign!

  6. Such great info! Thanks for putting it together. For those looking to get a new cutter, check real-time pricing before deciding. I got my Gazelle for a lot cheaper the $529 :-)

  8. I came back from vacation to find the info on the lawsuit from provocraft against MTC. I am furious and will be replacing my cricut machine as soon as I can afford to do so. I love MTC and will continue to support them. I think I'm going to save for a gazelle. It seems to have the criteria that I am looking for.
Any chance that the gazelle will file a suit against MTC as well? I hope not!

  10. Anyone have any suggestions on which cutter would be best for me to make rhinestone patterns with? Trying to decide between Pazzles and a few others. I will only need it to cut the round circles that will make up the final rhinestone pattern. Anyone have any ideas? :)

  11. I wish I would discover your blog before I bought my cricut expression
:( I think I do not have the chance to get a software system to cut svg files with the cricut :( From now on I will be visiting your blog everyday, may be I can get rid of my disappointment from the cricut machine and finally I buy a Cameo:)
    have a nice day...

  12. Jin-

I just found your blog when searching for cutters OTHER THAN Cricut. Your reviews are wonderful!! I can tell they are really done from the viewpoint of a user and I do appreciate your honesty. After all of your reviewing did you actually have a cutter that you would recommend as your favorite? I would love to know which machine you will keep and use the most. If I missed that somewhere on your blog please let me know where it is. Thanks so much for all of the hard work (and money) you put into helping us all make better decisions now.

    Phyllis
