  9. Mother's day or fathers day theme, my dad a retired dairy farmer. My mom likes cats.Happy Father's Day written in with the sketch, humorous cat would be funny, so I can use the sketch in a greeting card.inside the card with just a little detail. Would be fun if I hand paint the design after I do the sketch with my Cameo.

  19. Oooh, what fun! I'd love to see the Golden Gate Bridge, Yosemite Falls and a redwood tree. Perhaps an old English church with cobbled path, iron gate and rock wall; enlarged, detailed insects such as bee, dragonfly and ladybug. A single tree, such as a Japanese Maple during each of the four seasons in four separate drawings. French gargoyles. I could go on forever...
Thanks for the chance to win, Jin!

I would like to add fish - like a drawing of a shark, dolphin (not a fish, I know) and assorted tropical fish. It's especially hard to get nice looking, *realistic* tropical fish. Hubby knows a *lot* about them... trust me. ;D

    ReplyDelete

  42. Thanks for all the comments everyone. Looks like I'm going to be busy for a while! I just wanted to remind you that to the extent desired, you can also be a part of the art creation process. It really isn't hard to get out some pastels or watercolors (or markers even) and liven up these sketches. Here is a sample of the boots halfway colored to show you what I'm talking about: Boot Sample

To say thanks for all of the ideas, I created a
ladybug sketch just for you guys. It will only be up for a couple of days.

  43. Doug - love the sketches. THey are fabulous! Those are the kind my eyes are always drawn to in stamps.
I second some of the other suggestions I was beat to. LOL Would love lighthouse/beach/nautical sketches.
Rustic New England scenes, English countryside. I love landscapes, particularly 'nostalgic' type ones. Scenes that may you think of a simpler time.
I think you could do a series for each season. That would be great, too. You could make the beach/nautical ones for summer, the English countryside for spring, autumn in New England, and winter forest scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Doug, I love flowers.........but I particularly love wild flowers like black-eyed susan. I would love to see a set of them done by you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. In would love to see a southwest theme with either a church or an adobe home ( a cute Casa) with cactus or beautiful SW theme flowers

    ReplyDelete
  46. I second the "country" church and the cactus ideas. Even daisies or pansies would be great for those flower lovers.

    ReplyDelete
  47. For mother's Day, a mother and child (or baby) picture, and also father/child ones if looking for several in a set.

I like that I can color these in with a Copic after sketching (use Le Pen by Marvy Uchida for the sketching pen, it does not run with Copics).

    ReplyDelete
  48. Absolutely gorgeous sketches! They are perfect for Copics. I love nature themed sketches that contain some sort of wood (like the wheelbarrow) or stone — a stone wishing well would be great with some leafy shrubs and flowers and such and would lend its way to using on many different cards.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  50. I would love landscapes so they could be framed and hung on the wall.

  52. I would love a drawing of an old truck. My dad restores old pick-ups from the 60's. I think he would love a card with an old truck on it, maybe with an old barn behind it, or grass, or a picnic.

Flowers, just by themselves, like a trio of peonies or dahlias.

Flowers in different kinds of containers.

I love the old truck idea, maybe vintage cars.

Golf clubs or baseball mitt and bat for the men in our lives.

  75. My daughter is 4 and my son is 3. It was a long winter for them and they were just itching for Summer. A few weeks ago we had some nice weather (85) and the kids were so happy to play outside. They ran around the yard, playing with our black lab and swinging on the swing set. Our yard borders the dairy farm and the cows were all out in the pasture. It was a beautiful day, the kids laughing and playing together and everyone spending the day outside. I would like to see something that represents the magic of summer. When the grass is green, the sky is blue, the sun is warm and as a kid enjoying the magic of summer.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Thank you for the lady bug! I'm looking forward to playing with my colors this afternoon! I certainly agree with all of the suggestions made so far. I would love to have "realistic" sketches of wildlife - bears, deer, birds, etc.; cabins and scenery such as those found in Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountains NP; beach themed; and some hats and such that I could use for my Red Hat scrapbooks & cards!

Thank you for letting us make suggestions!!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Doug, I love the sketches. Thank you for the sweet ladybug. Here is another suggestion..or two. lol Rodeo, cowboys around the chutes, on horses, bullriding, roping, bulldogging, etc. Also, how about a ghost town series...old buildings with faded signs, tumble weeds by the old water trough, saloon with the doors askew, etc. And finally, a series of the Savior...blessing the sick, holding a child, in the temple, at the seashore, or any of the main events in HIS life. I think these would be awesome. Thanks for a chance to win. Your sketches are lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  78. There are a lot of great ideas here Doug. I'd like to add to my list a blue heron standing on a log floating against the dock in front of a floating home (nice one) on a river, with the focal point being the heron. This was my morning greeting everyday for years when I lived on the Columbia River in Portland Oregon. The perfect picture would be as if I was sitting on the porch of my floating home, looking out over the low planter boxes (filled with petunias) at the dock, log, and heron, with the grassy shoreline in the distance.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I live on an Arabian horse ranch and would love, love, love horses, eagles, hawks, wildflowers, barns! That would be really awesome!

I think my fav ideas would be a series of lighthouses, covered bridges, old barns and silos, and a lovely huge old oak tree.

Or, how about just some birds..... hawk, eagle, heron, pelican, mallard.....
