Our trip to Sun Peaks Ski Resort, Canada

I was in a frenzy in the weeks leading up to our Christmas vacation. Boots, gloves, helmets, goggles, sweaters, coats, Christmas presents, clean house.... SO MANY THINGS TO PREPARE! Hubby and I have signed the girls up for Ski School and we were looking forward to our second trip to the Sun Peaks Ski Resort in Sun Peaks, British Columbia, Canada.

Our friend, Judy (the Baker Extraordinaire) goes to Sun Peaks with her family every Christmas and even though she has asked us (many times!) to go along, we always decline for fear of intruding on her party. We finally decided to tag along last Christmas when she reassured us that we wouldn't be in her way at all. We had so much fun then we were excited to go again this year.

The drive from Seattle to Vancouver, BC took us about 1.5 hours and the bus ride to Sun Peaks took about 5, including a 1-hour lunch break at Aberdeen Mall in Kamloops, BC. By the time we got to the hotel, there wasn't much time (or daylight) left for skiing. Ski School will have to wait until the next day.

The next morning couldn't come fast enough! We all got up bright and early to head to Ski School.

We had enrolled the girls in 3 full-day classes. The students were grouped according to their Skill Level and each group includes 1 (sometimes 2) instructors and about 8 kids.

Lunch time at Ski School

Hubby and I loved that lunch for the kids was included. It was nice not to have to worry about that while we were on vacation.

You know that it's lunch time when the ski racks are full.

The weather was great at the ski resort but the snow came down hard on Christmas Eve.

The snow was a blanket of white that transformed the ski resort into a shimmering winter wonderland. We were in awe of the beauty that surrounded us. It took our breaths away!

We had done so much prep work and had looked forward to this trip and before we know it, our vacation was over and it was time to head home. The kids had a blast at Ski School and Hubby and I were grateful for the break. Thank you, Judy for inviting us to go along with you again. You are right, Christmas is more fun with friends. :-)

Free Baby Sven {Reindeer Snow Globe Shaker Card}

LD recently added a free set to their Ice Princess Bundle. The Baby Reindeer is so cute I made a card with it as soon as the set was downloaded.

These shaker cards are very similar to the ones that I had previously posted here {if you missed my post, just click HERE to see it}. The only difference is that I used the baby reindeer for these cards instead of a penguin.

http://interneka.com/affiliate/AIDLink.php?link=www.letteringdelights.com/searchprod.php?search=Ice+Princess&AID=39954

The Baby Reindeer was added to the Ice Princess bundles as a freebie but if you already own the bundle from a previous purchase, you can still get it at no charge.

http://interneka.com/affiliate/AIDLink.php?link=www.letteringdelights.com/searchprod.php?search=Ice+Princess&AID=39954

Just click HERE to go to the LD store and click on the Try Me Now button for the Baby Reindeer set. Next, add the file to your cart and check out. You pay $0!

Now all that is left to do is to download the file and start cutting. Enjoy! :-)

Friday Freebies! {plus new LD Expanding Bundles}

Finally, Christmas break is here! The last few weeks have been craaaaazy! So many things to do and clean but.....our tree is up, and our gingerbread houses are made. We're ready to take a break and spend some serious family time together. :-)

But first, here are a few things to share with y'all.

LD introduced their "Expanding Bundles" today. I read about it on their site and it sounds like a prepaid deal that also comes with a giant discount. Awesome!

http://interneka.com/affiliate/AIDLink.php?link=www.letteringdelights.com/searchsite_detail.php?id=3054&AID=39954

This is LD's first Cut Its "Expanding Bundle":

http://interneka.com/affiliate/AIDLink.php?link=www.letteringdelights.com/bundle:the_cut_set_expanding_bundle-13459.html&AID=39954

The way that I am reading the offer is this: when you buy the Cut Its Expanding Bundle, you are effectively pre-paying for 48 sets of (new-release) cutting files (including 24 cut sets, 12 cut projects, and 12 cut alphabets). LD will add 2 Cut It sets, 1 Cut It project, and 1 Cut It Alphabet to your library automatically every month from December 2014 until November 2015. If you use the "Merry25" coupon code, an additional discount of 25% will apply, thus bringing the price down to only $45. This means that each set averages out to less than 95 cents each! That's one heck of a deal!

If you find yourself buying LD's new releases all the time, you may want to consider getting the "Expanding Bundle" while the coupon code is still valid.

LD is also offering a Graphics Expanding bundle:

http://interneka.com/affiliate/AIDLink.php?link=www.letteringdelights.com/bundle:the_graphics_expanding_bundle-13458.html&AID=39954

Click HERE to read all about LD's Expanding Bundles.

Here is your Friday Freebie:

http://interneka.com/affiliate/AIDLink.php?link=www.letteringdelights.com/font:db_nativity-8426.html&AID=39954

Click HERE or the image above to go to the LD site. Add the DB Nativity Doodlebat font (dingbat) to your cart and checkout. You pay $0.00! The link to the download will show up after the "transaction" is completed.

scrapNfonts is a sister site of LD and they also have a freebie to give away. Click HERE to go to their blog to get their Santa's Milk and Cookies Labels (printable).

Day 2 Silhouette freebie: snowflake

A visit to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery & Tasting Room, Seattle WA

What a nice treat to have a day of sunshine after that horrible storm we had last week! When the sun is out, it feels wrong to stay inside and so Hubby and I took the kids downtown. Starbucks had just opened their new mega cafe plus roastery in Seattle and we thought we would check it out.

What a beautiful day in Seattle!

The Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room is located in 1124 Pike Street. We had trouble finding a parking spot and ended up parking in the Washington State Convention Center. We walked 3 blocks to the cafe.

We were pretty excited when we finally got there.

We have heard that the place is huge but we didn't realize how big the place is until we got inside. OMG, the place IS HUGE!

The first thing that greeted us was the roasting area. There is a big coffee roaster, a cafe, a restaurant, and a retail and merchandizing area on the ground level. The lower level holds another cafe (offering "fancier" coffee), another roaster, and a reading/quiet/"library-ish" space.

We decided that we wanted a drink first so we joined the line for the cafe.

The food they sell here is unlike the La Boulange pastries offered in the regular Starbucks stores. The food here actually looks good! If we hadn't already eaten at our favorite dumpling restaurant, I would have loved to try the Dark Kale salad and the Coffee-Rubbed Turkey Sandwich.

The drinks menu here is also different. Instead of a menu board, we see what is offered from several sheets of paper secured on a clipboard. I was curious about the Pantheon blend that is exclusive to the roastery and so I asked to have it Clover-brewed.

While waiting for my drink, I noticed that the coffee is served in a mug here rather than a to-go cup. I had missed those days when Starbucks used to serve their drinks in an actual cup and so I was pretty impressed. I was also surprised to see that they even do latte art!

Charlie didn't collect his (her?) drink and so folks like me couldn't help but sneakily take photos of it. hehe.

My coffee took a while but it was worth the wait. The drink was great!

We found a nice couch to relax on and a map to peruse while we enjoy our drinks.

Once we swallowed the last sip, we headed to the lower level.

We found that they serve the fancy stuff like pour-over coffee, the french press, and the siphon coffee here.

We headed back upstairs just in time to catch a demo of the roasting process.

Even though I know the coffee roasting process well (I used to roast my own beans), it was fun to see how they do it here. I thought that the kids would be bored but they too were fascinated to see how the roasting is done.

Before we headed out, we took a look at the retail and merchandizing area. There are mugs, bags, and various coffee gear offered here.

Of course, they sell coffee beans too.

I bought a couple of mugs and several giftcards. (If you want one, keep reading. *wink*)

Serious Pie (restaurant) is located just next to the retail area.

The Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room was an interesting experience. If you are in the Seattle area, definitely stop by to take a look. There is no other cafe quite like it.

I thought of you guys while I was at the Starbucks Roastery and so I bought extra giftcards! Check back here tomorrow to see my giveaway!  Click HERE to see how you can win one.
