Jin's Give-Away #5! Last one for the week!

How did the week fly by so quickly? It's Friday!

I'm not done with the re-org but it's coming together nicely. Even though at one point I felt this whole thing was a mission impossible, I'm glad I did it. I threw out so much stuff and I still have a few more boxes to bring to the school and to Goodwill! I can't wait till they're all out of the house.

This week you've shared a lot about how you craft but we have not touched on the subject of cleaning. Well, it's your lucky day because I have a cleaning tip for you today.  Well, sort of. Did you know that the spatula is not just a single use tool? That's right, I'm talking about that spatula we all use to remove our cut outs from the cutting mat.

Did you know that it is great for scrapping off rub-ons from hardwood floors? Just a gentle tug and the rub-ons come right off! Don't ask me how I know or why there is even rub-on on the floor. (Go ask my 6 year old. Grrr...)

I found even more paper in my stash that I have extras of, so I thought that we could do another round of paper give-away. How about I give away some 12" x 12" cardstock this time?

The winner of today's give-away will win

1 pack of 12"x12" Echo Park Springtime Collection Kit,
and
1 pack of 12" x 12" Cosmo Cricket Early Bird: Farmers Market.

Once again, here's how to win:

Leave a comment here on the blog and tell me a cleaning tip, preferably related to crafting (e.g. how you clean your cutting mat, stamps, etc.). If you don't have a craft-related tip, it's okay. Just leave a comment that has something to do with cleaning. You can even say, "I love to mop to I'm Sexy and I Know It!" and I will be fine with that.  ;-)

**Please comment on this page only (and not Facebook) to be considered for today's giveaway.**

Here are the terms of the give-away:

If you are not a follower of this blog or its Facebook page, you may enter this giveaway once.

If you are a follower of this blog or its Facebook page, you may enter 2 times. Just post your comment 2 times and mention in your 2nd comment that you are a follower of either this blog or the UnderACherryTree Facebook page.

International readers, please note:
Since I am giving away physical items, I will only be able to ship the prizes within the United States. If you win but do not have a U.S. address, I will email a $5 Lettering Delights gift certificate to you as your prize and will draw another name for the physical prize.

Entries to this week's give-aways will close on Sunday, March 4 at 11:59pm PST. All winners of this week's give-aways will be picked by Random.org and will be announced on Monday, March 5.

Today's give-away is the last one for the week. If you have not yet enter to win Jin's Give-aways 1, 2, 3 and 4, just click on the respective links below:

  1. Not a craft cleaning tip (but, if you're using a bottle or jar for a craft, it might come in handy)
When you need to clean the inside of a bottle or jar with a tiny opening that you can't get your hand, brush, etc inside, put some crushed eggshell inside with a little water and shake. (The amount of shaking is determined by the amount of buildup inside the bottle/jar.) This seriously works!

  9. Good Morning. I use a product called "Awesome" from the Dollar Tree store. Yep, its a dollar and works wonders to clean everything. You dilute it with water and it made a great rubber stamp cleaner, I put it in a small spray bottle and use on my stamp cleaner mat.

  17. I did a huge purge and re-org of my craft area over the summer and have found that (duh) when you know where everything is and it's organized and labeled, it's much easier to be productive. However, I have to force myself to keep at it because the job did not get 100% done and I tend to be a pile maker and a 'messy' scrapper - getting things out and not putting them away, not dealing with the scraps etc. I also find that I like having my main work area completely clean - however not good at keeping it that way (see above!) Still a work in progress!

    ReplyDelete
  18. When I misplaced my scrapping tool, I found a plastic putty knife did just as good and was even better on my old cricuit expression mats. Also, a get old dental tools from my dentist free. Those tiny sharp points have gotten into places I couldn't to get scraps out of crevices like the blade area of my Cameo.

  19. I clean my scissors and spatula when they get gunked up with rubbing alcohol. I also use it to clean my paint brushes, the alcohol (90%) will remove some acrylic paint.

  28. I LOVE that Farmers Market paper! My favorite cleaning tool is actually something that someone made me (a handy husband). It is an extremely thin piece of metal that is about 2.5 x 4.5 inches maybe. It is flat on one side and rounded on the other so it is comfortable to hold. It scrapes things off of the mats quickly and easily!

  38. Jin,

What fun! Hopefully I can go back & read all the tips some time!!! :)

My cleaning tip is how I clean my stamps. Unfortunately, I decided not to put a sink in my craft room (needed storage more!), so I bring my stamps to the sink when I am done for the day. In the meantime, I stamp them off on scratch paper and use a wet wipe (alcohol-free) to clean them.

Thank you so much for sharing and for the chance to win (that GORGEOUS paper!),

  39. Second comment for being a follower and email subscriber!!! ;)

It seems like many use the baby wipes! It's strange, because I used to use a Stampin' Pad and Stampin' Up Mist to clean my stamps. I only recently got in the habit of using the wipes (I think when I ran out of stamp cleaner). When I have the time, I am going to try making my own (lots of recipes for stamp cleaner online!).

    Thanks again,

  40. Jin, baby wipes are my choice for cleaning stamps, etc. Instead of taking a single wipe, I just leave the wipes in the package and press down on them when I'm done. Afa cleaning the house...ugh, I hate it. I'd rather be stamping, so...I just get my family to help once or twice a week...of course, I have an older household of family, mine are my grandkids: 19 and 15. And, hubby is always willing to pitch in and tell the girls how to do it! Ha!

  42. Cleaning tip...actually a couple. First, if you wipe your scissor blades with glycerin (or embossing pad reinker which is mostly glycerin) before cutting your unmounted stamps the sticky doesn't gum them up nearly as bad. To clean off any residue of sticky just wipe the blades with a little Undu. It removes sticky just like that. stampgramATyahooDOTcom

  55. Oh! I'd love to play with both of these paper packs. I'll go with "grandma" and maybe I'll add some sticky fun to my floor too! I think that could be fun!

My first tip for cleaning is keep a roll of paper towels near your inky, painty, wet working area. When you need to wipe up a splatter or spill, just grab the whole roll; DO NOT tear off a piece. The roll dries and you'll find it lasts forever and eventually, you can use the pieces for background paper.

My second tip is to get a dog and give her steriods. She'll lick and eat anything floor level, even raw wood (2 x 4's) that might have splinters.

  74. Cleaning, what's that??.... o.O
If you have a lot of little pieces of paper on your desk (like after using punches or cutting out intricate shapes) the best way to clean up is to make a mitten of packing tape (just roll the tape around hand several times) and then just tap the messy areas and see them get magically clean... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'm cleaning by scanning all my children's artwork and other saved papers/cards/decorations/etc. Once it's digital, it's in the recycle bin. It has been the best idea - I'm organized now and I know what I have.

  87. I use baby wipes also. I am going to have to try the idea given above of using simple green and an old toothbrush on my stamps when I use stazon ink pads. I keeps forgetting to by the cleaner when I go to Michael's so this may be my answer and I have simple green on had as I use it all the time.

Anyone have any ideas for removing "stickles" or glitter glue from carpet? I just found some that my little kids got on my carpet in my craft room and didn't tell me. It would have been so much easier to remove before it dried. Grrrr! but I still love them anyway!

  90. I love baby wipes for cleaning anything crafty. I use them to clean my clear photo-polymer stamps, cutting mats, my table after I get ink all over it, I even use them to wipe my hands off occasionally (it's amazing how well they take glue off your hands)...I could go on but I think you get the picture :)

  93. I could tell you that I love to mop, but I don't. I could say I love to do dishes, but...yep, another lie. I could even say I live for laundry, uh...yeah...not so much. What I DO love though is paper cutting. Cleaning the mat? Um...no. Darned all those little tiny snips and snaps. But the one tool I've found that makes that a fairly simple chore isn't even a 'craft' tool. It's my Pampered Chef Stoneware Scraper. Works great! Sadly, now I have nothing to clean my stoneware with. Oh well, we all have to make sacrifices, right?

  97. Love the paper packs! Thanks so much for the chance to win!! As for cleaning tips, I really don't have much. I usually put down newspaper to keep the mess on the table to a minimum. I keep a box of cheap kleenex for when I use my elmer's spray craft bond, I start with a paper plate, use the spray, then once I have my paper piece off I cover the plate with a kleenex, then all ready for the next piece. I'm also a baby wipe user for cleaning the mats, etc.

I'm with Bee on this one, cleaning? What's that? :P lol! But really, like many people have already mentioned, I'm a big user of the baby wipes as well. Otherwise I don't think I do anything special to clean, most of the time I'm too lazy to even try to clean my mats so I just buy new ones, lol.

  110. My funny cleaning story: Cleaning has always been hard to get into. Many years ago, I used to listen to the music of a fellow with rock & roll/blues sound and inspiring faith-based lyrics. I wrote him once just to encourage his ministry and also commented that dancing along to his songs made cleaning easier and kept my soul uplifted instead of getting grumpy and grouchy, my normal response to cleaning. He's a really funny guy and sent a postcard back - "yeah, that's what I do: music to clean to ..." It always makes me laugh to think of how my encouraging note probably also served to humble him ... ooops!

  111. Favorite cleaning "secret" - lint roller, the kind with sticky masking tape. cleans the table, the floor, picks up threads and small paper bits. Although some people use them on their cutting mats, I accidentally pulled off some of the adhesive when I used an extra-strong version, so be carefull.

  125. My tip is to avoid cleaning up all those itty bitty paper scraps that get all over the floor by getting a thigh-high waste basket with wide rim. I recently got one from Big Lots and its made me real happy.

  128. Cleaning, I don't clean! lol.. The biggest thing I try to do,is when I use an item to put it back where I found it when I am done. It keeps clutter down. Thanks Jin!!

  129. Hi! I also use dishwashing soap and hot water to clean my mats. And an adhesive remover to clean my scissors!

I have to tell... I was cleaning the house and instead of using the furniture polish I grab my repositionable spray adhesive... oh boy... it was a mess! Don't ever do that! :D

P.S I follow the blog! Thanks for the give-away.

  131. i read somewhere that the best way to clean the cutting mat is to use liquid soap and water :) and that's what I do :) but mostly I only like to clean my table hahahaha (using cloth and Pledge)

  133. I am a new follower... My tip: When I dont feel like getting up and cleaning my mat with soap and water as many tutorials suggest.. I take the long edge of my ruler and scrape across the mat a few times, it lifts a lot of residue, and allows me a little more usage before scrubbing..

  135. My favorite cleaning tip for crafts: Keep a bottle of "hand sanitizer" handy. It cleans up alcohol markers on hands, tables etc. Helps remove adhesive from scissors...It can even be used in your crafts! Love it!
    Those papers are so cute!!

  139. Hubby saves his little containers that screws and nails come in and gives them to me to store my scrapbooking items in. I use Avon Skin So Soft oil to remove the those stubborn labels. Just had to use it on some stickers that were stuck on the front of my new toliets. LOL Thanks for a chance.

  154. I've heard of cleaning you cricut mats to restore the stickiness, with baby wipes, but I took it one step further...I had some baby wipes that weren't very wet anymore, so I added rubbing alcohol and cleaned the mats that way. The sticky paper fibers came up way faster than just using the baby wipes alone, and left the mats much cleaner...and still super sticky!

  156. Instead of buying the more expensive "splat mats," I use the cheap flexible cutting boards/mats that you find at the dollar store to work on. They are a pretty good size, easy to wipe clean, and cheap so if they get too yucky, they can be tossed and a brand new one can be used.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I also use old mail order catalogs to glue on so that way the glue will go on the pages and I can just turn the page and get nice clean one. The clean up is just tossing it into the recycling bin.

And yes, I'm a facebook fan and a follower! Pretty much addicted!

  158. I try to keep my scraps organized by having set sizes to cut them to. If they don't fit one of the sizes it goes into the recycling bin.
