Of Shaped Cards, Blog Hop, and a Very Special Sneak Peek

Have I ever told you that I love making shaped cards? No? Well, let me tell you now then. I love making shaped cards! :-)

They are so easy and so much fun to make. The best part is they look so different from the same ole' rectangle card.

Making a shaped card is really easy with Make-the-Cut. Basically, you open/import an image, make a Shadow Layer, then make another Shadow Layer, Duplicate that, Flip (or Mirror) that duplicate to face the opposite direction, and Weld that two layers together. Get it? The formula, once again is Shadow, Shadow,  Duplicate, Mirror, and Weld. or SSDMW.

I made these cards from the Sweet Nothings SVG set the other day. As there isn't a straight edge on the original images to make a good welded card base, I had to modify the SSDMW formula a little. I added an extra rectangle to extend the basic shape of the card. Can you tell where I put that rectangle in the cards here? No prizes this time for the correct guess. ;-)

If you have not made a shaped card before, just click on this tutorial to learn how. I have included both a written and a video tutorial. If you find the written tutorial too lengthy, just watch the video. It's less than 5 mins long.

Before I end this post, let me invite you to Joy's Birthday Party Blog Hop tomorrow. Be inspired by the 16 blogs that are participating on this hop and you also stand a chance to win a blog candy at each blog. That's 16 chances to win a blog candy!

By the way, if you are a fan of Lettering Delights, you must come back to check out my blog tomorrow. I have been given the go-ahead to show you a really special Lettering Delights' Sneak Peek. You really have to see this! It's so cool it's going to knock your socks off. ;-)

  5. I tried to "contact you" but the verification wasnt' working. I love your blog and find it so helpful. I have pixel traced a shape in MTC and am having some trouble. It has taken the lines of the shape and made the thicker, so that it thinks that the cut lines are the object rather than just to cut them out as one cut. So it is going around the shape twice to cut out the line and has messed up the end shape...in fact it is so small that the paper starts to crumple and tear. Any way to correct this problem? thanks kathy kfmurray@shaw.ca

  6. You are my hero! I am so glad I found your blog this week! Your projects are so inspiring. I have SCAL instead of MTC and have made basic shaped cards, but I love how you add a rectangle to have room for extra elements. I plan to try out some of my own this weekend with some Lettering Delights. I can't wait to see what you have tomorrow!

  10. I love how you add the rectangles! It makes cards that I thought couldn't be made into shaped cards possible. I've made shaped cards, but I have yet to add rectangles, so I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for your inspiration!
